Keynotes, Workshops & CLE Programming

Keynotes, Workshops & CLE Programming

There is a version of this work that reaches beyond individual engagements.

A keynote that reorients a room. A workshop that gives a leadership team a shared framework they didn’t have before. A facilitated retreat that does the real work, not a break from it. A CLE program that leaves legal professionals with something they will actually use.

Judge Mark Barcus brings to every platform what most speakers cannot: 25 years of making binding decisions under pressure across state and federal courts, combined with deep organizational leadership experience and the intellectual frameworks that connect judicial discipline to the challenges leaders face every day.

The result is programming that is substantive, grounded, and immediately applicable — not motivational, not generic, and not easily forgotten.

Keynote Speaking

Judge Barcus builds each keynote around a single, precise idea — and delivers it with the authority of someone who has lived inside high-stakes environments for decades.

His keynotes don’t offer inspiration as a substitute for insight. They leave audiences with a framework they can actually use: for navigating complex challenges, for understanding what happens to smart people under pressure, for leading in environments where the old playbooks stop working.

Judge Barcus is a September 2026 TEDx speaker at Austin College. Keynote inquiries welcome for 2026 and beyond.

Workshops & Facilitated Programs

Half-day, full-day, and multi-session programs for leadership teams and organizations. All programs are designed around live decision environments rather than abstract exercises.

The Inner Loop: Leadership in the Space Between Most leadership failures don’t happen because of bad strategy. They happen in the moment between what lands on a leader and what they do next. This workshop builds the awareness and practice to close that gap — individually and collectively. Available as a standalone half-day session or as the foundation for a longer development program. Suitable for leadership teams at any level.

Navigate, Don’t Solve: A Decision Framework for Complex Environments Leaders are trained to solve problems. But the most consequential challenges they face aren’t problems — they’re complex, adaptive situations that require navigation rather than solutions. This workshop helps leadership teams accurately diagnose what kind of situation they’re actually in, and align their response accordingly. The distinction changes everything about how they lead.

Negotiation Readiness: The Interior Game Most negotiation training teaches tactics. This one addresses what tactics can’t fix: the interior patterns that cause leaders to freeze, over-accommodate, or go aggressive when the stakes rise. Drawing on Enneagram-based pattern awareness and conflict readiness methodology developed in mediation and courtroom environments, this program builds the self-knowledge that makes negotiation skill actually work. Available as a half-day workshop, full-day intensive, or multi-session team program.

Conflict Readiness for Leadership Teams Conflict avoidance is expensive. So is poorly managed conflict. This program is designed for teams where recurring friction, positional behavior, or escalation patterns are limiting performance — and where leadership is ready to address it directly rather than manage around it. Combines assessment, framework, and facilitated practice. Delivered as a structured engagement rather than a one-time event.

Facilitated Retreats

InnerLoop designs and facilitates leadership retreats that are genuinely developmental – not off-sites that feel like a break from the work, but structured experiences that do the work differently.

Retreats are designed around the organization’s actual challenges: the decisions being avoided, the tensions not yet named, the culture being modeled versus the one being aspired to. The facilitation is direct, rigorous, and grounded in the belief that the most important leadership conversations are the ones that haven’t happened yet.

Retreats range from one day to three days and are available for executive leadership teams, boards, and senior cohorts.

CLE Programming

InnerLoop is developing an accredited Continuing Legal Education curriculum for legal organizations, bar associations, and law firms. Programming is delivered by a former state and federal judge who watched thousands of attorneys succeed – and fail – in those rooms.

Sample offerings:

Conflict Readiness for Legal Professionals Performing at your best when the pressure is highest

The Inner Loop in Legal Practice The gap between stimulus and response is where outcomes are determined

Leadership for Legal Organizations The skills that made you an exceptional attorney are not sufficient for what you’re being asked to lead

Preparing Your Client for the Mediation Room The legal case is ready. Is your client?

What Makes This Different

Most leadership speakers have read the research. Some have led organizations. Very few have spent 25 years making binding decisions in adversarial, high-stakes environments where the quality of their judgment  determined outcomes for real people every single day.

That is not a speaking credential. It is a different quality of understanding about what leadership under pressure actually requires – and what it takes to develop it.

Prepare for mediation the way high-stakes decisions deserve.
